My name is Henry Joseph Gauthier. I grew up in the Ocean State where my love for the bay and boating began. For the past ten years I have lived in Wickford, Rhode Island - the “Venice of New England. “
After college graduation I traveled cross country and supported myself by restoring boats and houses - a passion I still have today. Back in Rhode Island I began a woodworking career as a cabinetmaker for a start up architectural woodworking company call Herrick & White, Ltd. I retired as partner in the fall of 2012. In those 33 years I helped to grow the firm into the industry leader it is today
As an artist I have been creating wood sculptures with a sailing theme. My inspiration is the figured woods and found objects that I craft into each design. I strive to have each sculpture embody the soul and spirit of sailing. I work daily in my artist owned and renovated studio and gallery, Studio 460 Gallery, in Wickford, R.I.
My career as a sculptor has just begun and I am gratified by the emotional reaction my art seems to evoke.
I anticipate future projects with excitement as I continue to develop my style, broaden my scope and grow as an artist.
